Marcali is a stirring small town with a population of 13 000 people, with 13 km south of Balatonkeresztúr. From the west the town is bordered by the 300 m tall Marcali-hill with its woody hills. From the other sides it is surrounded by flat plains dotted with lakes and forest parklands.
With a town status since 1977, Marcali is a commercial, medical and cultural centre of its surroundings. The Roman Catholic Church lying in the town centre was built in the 15th century. After its reconstruction it characterizes baroque and classical elements. The Széchenyi Castle was built in 1913 in neo-baroque style, today it functions as a hospital.
The significance of the town has been increased by its trade too, which does not only attract the residents and the people who live nearby, but also those who spend their holidays at Lake Balaton.
The town spa and free time centre is located in a 80 000 m2 park in the north of the town. In the spa you can find a 50 m-long sport pool, teaching pool, children's pool, thermal- and spa pool.
Inside of the spa a 25 m-long swimming pool with 4 lanes, teaching pool and thermal pool can be found.
Rheumatic, neurological and gynecological diseases can be successfully treated by thermal water.
4 tennis, 2 beach handball and beach volleyball and a basketball courts offer you sport-and free-time facilities.
The playground is not only equipped with a huge sand box, but also 18 type of games can be used there.
Besides jogging and meditation, the 50 000 m2 park provides an excellent recreation.
